Bay City Rollers stars reveal their mixed feelings over Tam Paton

FORMER Bay City Roller Alan Longmuir today insisted he will remember Tam Paton for the man he was in the early days of the band, not the controversial character he became.

The 60-year-old 1970s teen heartthrob spoke of his sadness at hearing his controversial former manager had died on Wednesday night from a suspected heart attack while in the bath at his Gogar mansion.

But Longmuir's comments come as fellow Rollers star Les McKeown today claimed Paton raped him and threatened to kill him if he spoke out about it. He described Paton as a tyrant.

He said: "I almost feel guilty for being so happy but I can't imagine a man nor beast who will be mourning the passing of Tam Paton.

"I hate him. I'm glad he's dead. I was just a young boy. I was only 18, 19 when he raped me."

"Tam was an evil manipulator of young men. He used his power and drugs. Tam was great for plying the band with drugs to keep us working and under his control."

Longmuir painted a different story of the controversial Paton though.

He said: "Tam Paton was a good guy at the very beginning, as well as being a very competent musician. He tried very hard to keep us unique, which was good.

"I will remember him as he was during the early days when we had no money, but there were plenty of laughs."

The former band member, who grew up in the Capital, is now a plumber in Bannockburn.

Former bandmate, and life-long friend, Stuart "Woody" Wood called him just hours after Mr Paton's death to tell him the news.

He said he had not seen Mr Paton for at least 15 years - the last time being when the 70-year-old former manager - who was convicted of sex offences against teenage boys in 1982 - took the band out for a meal.

For years the musicians have been involved in a legal wrangle over claims they are owed money through missing royalties from their recordings.

Mr Longmuir – who was a founder member of The Bay City Rollers along with his brother, Derek, and Nobby Clark – said: "I think it was when we ended up in London that Tam got fed up.

"Everything changed in 1979 when money started going missing. Tam started sending really unexperienced tour managers to work with us.

"I do believe he abandoned the band - he had the high-life and we were left to fight the lawyers.

"But he was a fun type of guy - very comical. He was also a control freak though and tried to stop us going out with girls.

"It wasn't because he was gay – we never even knew he was gay at the start – it was just that everything was always about the band."

A friend of Mr Paton's, who was at his house yesterday, and did not want to be named, said: "It's a traumatic time at the moment.

"As you can imagine, everyone here is just really upset."

Mr Paton once said that he had an estimated £5 million fortune and that on his death, he would be likely to leave it to animal charities.

Paton's brother, David, 79, who lives in Cockenzie, East Lothian, said: "It's a sad time. I'll be sorting out his funeral arrangements."

It is understood that the dead man's two sisters, along with friends, have now made their way up from London to deal with his affairs.

Some of Paton's fortune, which has been estimated at more than £5 million, could be seized under proceeds of crime laws, it was reported today.

Police have confirmed they left Mr Paton's mansion shortly after undertakers arrived on Wednesday night, and that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Former Brewster officer pleads guilty to charges

In a plea deal, former Brewster police officer Joseph Houston pleaded guilty yesterday in Boston Municipal Court to several charges associated with his actions at a Metallica concert in January.

Houston was in court for two separate cases stemming from the Jan. 18 incident. He was scheduled for trial for trespassing because he re-entered TD Banknorth Garden after being thrown out of the concert by security personnel and MBTA Transit Police. He was also to be arraigned on assault and battery and a felony charge of open and gross lewdness.

According to a Brewster Police Department investigation, witnesses said Houston consumed a half-dozen beers at a bar before the concert. He then physically and verbally harassed a family that had traveled to Boston from out of state and were seated in the row in front of Houston and his brothers.

Houston pulled down his pants, exposed his penis and urinated on a man's shirt, seat and the floor beside him, according to what the family told police. With his penis still exposed, Houston lunged at the man's sister, according to the Brewster police investigation.

Yesterday, Houston agreed to admit to sufficient facts and a finding of guilty on the trespassing charge and the assault and battery charge, but he avoided the felony charge of open and gross lewdness and pleaded to a lesser charge of assault and indecent exposure.

Houston's attorney, Thomas Drechsler, said his client has "put the matter behind him."

The trespassing charge was continued without a finding for three months. The other charges were continued without a finding for 18 months. During that time, Houston must undergo alcohol evaluation and treatment and have no contact with the family he victimized. He also must repay the family the $2,631 they spent to attend the concert.

As part of the plea deal, Houston must forgo any further appeals or arbitration over his termination from the Brewster Police Department. The Brewster Board of Selectmen fired Houston last month.

"If he abides by those conditions for the duration of the continuance, the cases will be dismissed. If he doesn't, then they go to trial," said Jake Wark, spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley.

Rob Lowe Wins Another Round Against Ex-Nanny Over Confidentiality Agreement

Rob Lowe's nanny problem is almost resolved as a judge ruled in his favor over an ex-nanny's confidentiality agreement.

Last year, Lowe and his wife Sheryl sued nanny Laura Boyce for breaking a confidentiality agreement and revealing personal details about the couple.

Boyce then filed a countersuit accusing Sheryl of sexual harassment and seeking compensation for her wrongful dismissal and backpay.

According to her, Sheryl was sexually offensive and had asked her about the size of her boyfriend's penis. The wife also regularly paraded around the house naked. The allegations were vehemently denied by the Lowes.

She claimed that the contract violated her freedom on speech; thus, it was invalid to begin with. However, on Tuesday, the judge rejected her argument and sided with the "Brothers and Sisters" actor, saying the contract was legally binding, TMZ reports.

Boyce is just one of two ex-employees the couple have sued. The Lowes claim another nanny and a chef were trying to extort money from them.

Spray May Help Men Last Longer in Bed

A spray developed by Irish researchers may help men delay ejaculation and extend the length of sexual encounters, according to a study published in the British Journal of Urology.

Men who used the spray, developed by researchers at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, five minutes before having intercourse extended their love-making from half a minute to almost four minutes, the study found.

The spray contains local anesthetics that numb the penis and could be available for use within the next couple of years, the BBC reports.

Researchers tested the spray, called PSD502, or a placebo on 300 men.

Those given the actual spray lasted 6.3 times longer on average. Men who tested the placebo spray lasted just 1.7 times longer.

Jack Wrangler, gay porn idol, dead at 62

The 1970s gay porn idol Jack Wrangler has died at age 62.

Lewis Tice, director of publicity and marketing for TLA Releasing, a distributor of gay-themed independent films, says Wrangler died in New York City of complications of lung disease.

Wrangler starred in numerous gay adult movies and went on to become a musical theater performer. His life was chronicled in last fall's documentary "Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon."

Tice says Wrangler starred in more than 80 adult films beginning in the 1970s.

Wrangler later married pop vocalist Margaret Whiting, who survives him.

FINA agrees new rules for swimsuits

Manufacturer Speedo is confident its controversial LZR Racer will be approved for this year's Rome world titles despite swimming's governing body adopting new rules designed to limit high-tech suits.

The LZR Racer was one of the chief contributors to the avalanche of world records last year that led to calls for suit technology to be reined in.

FINA has taken steps to secure an even playing field by establishing its own independent regime with testing for the likes of suit thickness, buoyancy levels, and "air trapping effects".

Suits have to be submitted to FINA for testing by the end of the month to earn approval for July's world titles in Italy.

A Speedo spokesman said the swimwear maker was confident the LZR Racer would be passed after FINA announced its new measures following a meeting in Dubai this weekend.

"At this stage we are of the opinion the LZR Racer will be fine," an Australian-based Speedo spokesman told AAP.

"But we are still ... trying to get some clarification from FINA as to what the new sort of testing approach will actually involve because that is something that has not been made clear at this stage."

Ex-Playboy staffer files discrimination lawsuit

NEW YORK (AP) — Playboy magazine's former fashion director claims he was fired because of his sexual orientation and his age.

Joseph DeAcetis filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court saying the magazine's editorial director "made fun" of him because he is gay and his hair was gray. The lawsuit says that the editorial director referred to homosexuals as "girls."

The 45-year-old DeAcetis became a staffer at Playboy in 2005.

He says his duties were gradually given to a younger, straight male assistant and a straight female editor.

Playboy Enterprises spokeswoman Elizabeth Austin says the company "takes these allegations very seriously" and has been investigating internally.

A local Philadelphia man is suing a doctor, claiming he's now impotent because the urologist misdiagnosed his condition.

The Drexel Hill husband says he and his wife had a healthy sex life until a Saturday morning in 2004, when, while having intercourse, he struck her pelvic bone, according to the Daily Times.

“I heard a pop and a sharp pain. And blood was shooting all over,” he told the jury according to the newspaper's report. “I didn’t have a clue what was happening. Blood was spurting all over.”

His wife took him straight away to the emergency room. The man's claiming the urologist he sought out for treatment that day didn't figure out his penis was fractured. That's a big deal, he claims, because apparently there is only a short window of opportunity to have surgery for a fractured penis.

By the time the husband did some research of his own on the internet and got a second opinion, he said it was too late.

“I was really upset,” he said. “It ripped me apart. I can’t have sex with my wife. It was so overwhelming.”

The man testified in court this week that he has tried lots of other options to get things back in working order, but nothing has helped.

“It hurt so bad. I tried to have sex, but couldn’t,” he said.

The doctor has denied any negligence and said he saw no signs of a penile fracture, according to the Daily Times.

The man's wife was expected to testify on Thursday and the jury could get the case by Friday.

Shaun Majumder, the Canadian actor and comedian who is a regular on CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes, has landed a lead role in a new series for U.S. network ABC.
Majumder will star in the as-yet untitled project, a comedy about marriage and parenthood as seen through the eyes of three couples — one straight, one gay and one multi-ethnic.
In April, he will begin shooting the pilot, being produced by Jeff Strauss, who worked on All of Us and Friends.

New West Point alumni group pushes for gay rights in military

Knights Out - a group of about 50 West Point graduates - created a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender alumni organization on the military academy's Founders Day.

The advocacy group's goal is to repeal "don't ask, don't tell" and work with the academy to train cadets in diversity issues.

The group includes gay West Point graduates who served in the Vietnam War and the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dan Choi, a 2003 West Point alumnus from Orange County, Calif., who helped create Knights Out, said the academy's values on doing the right thing, not lying and fighting injustice were why he wanted to create the group.

"The West Point honor code is not just for straight cadets," said Choi. "It's a conflict at the very core of what the honor code really stands for."

Choi, an Arab linguist and veteran of the Iraq war, said he left the Army in 2008 with an honorable discharge after he fell in love and wanted to stop hiding his sexual preference.

"That's the reason why a lot of us left," he said.

He is asking the U.S. District Court to clear him of his conviction for tax evasion and release him from federal prison.
If not, he would like the court to order a retrial or hear new evidence about his arguments that he had poor legal representation from Texas lawyer Michael Minns and is, in fact, innocent.

Hatch also took aim at Judge Ernest C. Torres, questioning what motivated the judge’s decision not to allow lawyers to quiz prospective jurors about their views on homosexuality. His appearance before 54 million viewers on Survivor in which he was portrayed as openly gay and “unapologetically non-superstitious” set the stage for bigotry and ignorance, Hatch said.
Hatch, 47, of Newport, is serving his sentence in a federal prison in Morgantown, W.Va. He won the first season of the seminal CBS show and became infamous as the calculating and openly gay contestant who competed in the nude.

It was mostly the tone and my perception of Carey as an actor, just because I never looked at Carey in a sexual manner and he was so dedicated to giving it to the muscle-bear and the sexual tone was authentic, it caught me off guard. I eventually got over it and I think Carey is convincingly fantastic in the film. But I think most folks are used to seeing Ewan McGregor naked and engaging in man-on-man sex, but Carey, not so much. Brandon Dale Woodruff was found guilty Friday of capital murder involving the deaths of his parents, Dennis and Norma Woodruff, in October 2005.

As the prosecution was not seeking the death penalty, Woodruff received an automatic sentence of life in prison without parole.

The jury in the 354th District Court returned the verdict after some five hours of deliberations in the case, following closing arguments.

Charla Woodruff, the defendant’s sister, read a statement following the announcement of the jury’s decision, which said she had tried to move on with her life, but that she still is constantly reminded about the murders.

“The horror and pain come back and leave me at a loss for words,” she said. “Brandon, you made me plan a funeral. That thought still disgusts me.”

Defense counsel Katherine Ferguson said she and fellow defense attorney Jerry Spencer Davis were disappointed with the verdict.

“But we respect that the jury spent five hours deliberating and reviewing the evidence,” Ferguson said, adding a verbal notice of appeal had already been filed. “The appeals court will take it from there.”

Adrienne McFarland, one of two special prosecutors assigned to the case from the Texas Attorney General’s Office, said she and fellow prosecutor Raphael Guerrero could not address the outcome.

“Other than to say we are very pleased with the verdict we can’t say anything else,” McFarland said.

As he was being led from the courtroom and back to the Hunt County Jail, where he has been incarcerated since shortly after his parents’ deaths, Brandon Woodruff was greeted by supporters shouting their encouragement. Woodruff thanked them and declined comment other than to say, “I am not guilty. There will be an appeal.”

The verdict brought to a close a 12-day trial and more than three years of legal twists and turns in one of Hunt County’s most sensational murder cases.

Brandon Woodruff, 22, had pleaded not guilty to one count of capital murder in connection with the deaths of Dennis and Norma Woodruff. Prosecutors alleged Woodruff killed his mother and father inside their home near Royse City sometime after 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005. Their bodies were found in the residence two days later.

During closing arguments Friday morning, McFarland told the jury the evidence was “simply overwhelming” that Woodruff killed his parents, claiming that Woodruff had built a double life of lies.

“Brandon was living in a complete fantasy world,” McFarland said, alluding to testimony from witnesses who said Woodruff talked about being a model, about his parents being wealthy and about how he was going to get a new truck.

“The reality, though, wasn’t even close to the fantasy,” McFarland said, noting the defendant had reached the limits on all of his credit cards and that his parents were struggling with heavy loads of debt. Woodruff was also about to have to drop out of freshman classes at Abilene Christian University, McFarland said, and was planning to tell his parents he was gay.

McFarland argued Woodruff believed his only way out was to murder his parents and obtain the insurance settlement.

“He’s cashing in,” McFarland said. “He’s killed his parents and he is starting a new life.”

In her closing, Ferguson argued the prosecution failed to prove Woodruff killed his parents.

“I’m thinking the prosecution is living in a fantasy world,” Ferguson said. “I’m not sure we sat through the same trial.”

Ferguson said the timelines of Woodruff’s movements the night of the murders, based on cell phone and toll road records, show Woodruff did not have the time to commit the murders. Ferguson said the autopsy results of both the victims could be considered incomplete, as hairs found in the right hand of Norma Woodruff were never tested for DNA.

Ferguson said there was also a dispute among forensics experts over whether a dagger, found more than two years after the deaths, could be the weapon which caused stab wounds found on both victims and that a revolver which the prosecution alleged disappeared from the home of Woodruff’s former girlfriend and could have been used to shoot the victims was never found.

“They certainly are not going to let any facts get in the way of their assumption,” Ferguson said. “Are you bothered by this, ladies and gentlemen? If it bothers you, it’s because they haven’t proved their case and you have reasonable doubt.”

But Guerrero’s closing arguments focused on how Woodruff’s accounts of where he was and what he was doing the night of the murders, specifically between 9:40 and 10:10 p.m., could not be verified.

“You know the truth, because of his lies,” Guerrero told the jury. “And the truth is, he is guilty of capital murder.”

As part of her statement, Charla Woodruff, now a detective with the sheriff’s office in Magnolia County, Ark., said since the murders she had given birth to a daughter who would never know her grandmother and she realizes that whenever she is married, she won’t have her father available to walk her down the aisle.

“The hurt I was going through, you put it there,” she said, adding her biggest regret was that she passed on the chance to speak to her mother the night of the murders while visiting relatives in Texarkana. “I had no idea it was actually my last chance to talk to her.”

The last few days have been about relaxing and recovering from the background cold that followed me around China. They have also been about an overwhelming preoccupation about the man/boy I shared a room with on the journey.

Stuart Webb (born September 3, 1980 in Uralla, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian rugby league player for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the National Rugby League competition. In a strange turn on MySpace, you are no longer allowed to claim that you are gay. The option has been removed for some reason from the Life Style section. Many are up in arms about this change and would like it remedied at once.

If you go to the Background and Life Style section, you will see that the options that you can choose from are, "Bi, Lesbian, Straight, Not Sure, or No Answer." The, "Gay," option is no longer present. This has many in the Gay Community up in arms about the issue.

There are a few possible explanations for this. It was reported in March that two hackers were going to be spending the month of April hacking into MySpace.com in an attempt to show all of the security problems with the site. This could be an offshoot of that issue.

MySpace.com has also gone through many revamps over the last few months. This issue could be caused by an oversight on their part.

Many Internet sites are claiming that Rupert Murdoch himself is causing this problem. The billionaire owns Fox, which owns Fox Interactive Media, which owns MySpace.

Murdoch is a self-proclaimed homophobe who has stated that he would love to see a ban on anything having to do with homosexuality. He has made numerous speeches about his beliefs about homosexuality and has come under constant fire from the
Gay, Lesbian, Bi, and Transgender Communities.
Many users have reportedly sent notifications about this error over the last 24 hours. There has not been a response from Tom, or any of the other leaders at MySpace. Tom did release a statement a few hours ago, but that was about an Internet rumor that was stating that MySpace was shutting down, or going to start charging users.

MySpace has come under more and more fire over the last few months because of mounting concerns and problems that many of the users are facing. According to MySpace, they are doing what they can to remedy these problems. Among the problems are the slowness of the site, and the fact that the site constantly is plagued by error messages.

If MySpace.com does not respond to this issue quickly, many of its users may start accusing the site of homophobic actions. It is strange, though, that the, "Gay," selection would go away, but not, "lesbian or bi." The reader is allowed to draw any conclusions possible from this statement.

Man Cuts Off His Penis in London Restaurant

British police were forced to restrain a man with CS gas after he cut his own penis off in a packed London restaurant on Sunday.

The photo is one of several taken at the scene of the April 16 shooting by Roanoke Times photographer Alan Kim and transmitted hours later worldwide by the Associated Press. It appeared the next day in dozens of newspapers, in many cases on the front page.

Almost immediately, newspaper readers began to debate the image. A message board devoted to the Detroit Free Press sparked a debate the next morning over whether the picture actually showed genitalia. The Hartford Courant was bombarded with complaints, many of which reader representative Karen Hunter posted online.

“You are showing his penis right on the front page,” one Courant reader complained to Hunter. “I think that’s disgusting…. I think you should have blocked it out or something.”

Over at the New York Post, editors anticipated that exact response. The Post ran the picture big and in color, but cloned out the flesh-colored shape protruding from the student’s lap. Across town, the archrival Daily News ran the picture unedited.

People edited the photo, while its sister magazine Time ran the picture unedited.

By April 18, sharp-eyed bloggers had flagged some of the news outlets that altered the photo. Both Poynter and the National Press Photographers Association – whose code of ethics prohibits digital alterations to news photographs in most cases – posted stories about the photo on their Web sites.

In response, Post executive editor Col Allen told Poynter, “We decided to make a very minor alteration to the photograph of Kevin Sterne being carried out of Norris Hall to protect the wounded student’s dignity but in no way change the news impact of the picture.”

And the researchers say the rapid increase in the condition is worrying and needs further research as Lindy Kerin reports.

Dr Natasha Nassar from the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research in Western Australia says it's considered a major birth defect.

NATASHA NASSAR: It occurs in baby boys in the urethra, which usually develops at the tip of the penis, actually develops on the underside and the location sort of determines how severe it is.

So if it's close to the tip, it's usually a mild case, but if the urethra develops closer to the perineum, than it can be a more severe case.

LINDY KERIN: Dr Nassar has been investigating the rate of hypospadias in Western Australia for the past 20 years.

She's found the number of boys born with moderate and severe cases of the genital defect, has almost doubled. She says it's similar case around the country.

A Brisbane man accused of deliberately infecting his teenage lover with HIV could not have committed the crime because he was unable to get an erection, a court has heard.

Jamie Michael Richards, 34 of Highgate Hill, has pleaded not guilty to unlawfully and intentionally transmitting a serious disease and causing grievous bodily harm to the teen, now aged 20.

Prosecutors allege Richards did not declare his HIV-positive status during a casual sexual affair with the younger man, whom he met a a train station in 2003.

At Brisbane's District Court this morning, Richards' defence counsel Adrian Gundelach suggested his client was the "passive partner" in the relationship and suffered from "gender dysphoria", which prevented him from having full penetrative sex.

However, Richards' alleged victim strongly rejected claims he had never seen Richards with an erection, testifying his former partner had both "given and received" during their numerous sexual encounters.

When quizzed by Mr Gundelach over why he had never reciprocated oral sex with Richards, the younger man said it was because Richards' penis was "ugly", not because he couldn't get it up.

"It looks ugly, it's feral ... it's ugly shaped," the alleged victim testified.

He also denied claims he had lied about his age when he first met Richards - 14 years his senior - at the Brunswick Street railway station in November 2003.

The court has previously heard the meeting sparked a "certain attraction" between the pair and they began sleeping together at a Dutton Park boarding house and a Highgate Hill unit Richards shared with his brother.

The younger man alleged Richards covered up his illness, which was diagnosed about 1995, telling him "don't worry, I'm clean" when the pair had unprotected sex.

But his suspicions were aroused after an alleged conversation with Richards' brother, who was paid a government allowance to care for the sick man. A blood test in 2005 confirmed the alleged victim had contracted the disease, which the Crown claims it can prove "with 100 per cent probability" came from Richards.

Under intense cross-examination by Mr Gundelach today, the younger man denied frequenting gay "beats" or being sexually promiscuous and insisted he had been a virgin when he first met Richards.

He said he always carried condoms in his bag but admitted it was possible he didn't know if they had been used or not.

"Obviously sometimes when you're drunk or smoking pot, you wouldn't have a clue," he said.

"It's better to be safe than sorry ... it's better than picking up a disease or something isn't it?"

The trial continues.

River Phoenix

River Jude Phoenix (August 23, 1970 – October 31, 1993) was an Academy Award-nominated American film actor.
