Lance's Boyfriend Attacks Military Anti-Gay Rules In New Book

Pop star Lance Bass' boyfriend Reichen Leymkuhl has written a new book titled Here's What We'Ll Say, which chronicles his 'coming out' at the Us Air Force Academy.

The Us reality Tv hunk hopes his story will prompt lawmakers to change regulations which ostracise gay people in the military.
He says, "It's still a criminal offence to be gay in the Us Armed Forces. It's an abomination.

"In my opinion, it's the last legal human rights abuse the Us allows. This book chronicles the secret society we created to survive as gay cadets in the academy.

"(With this book) I'm making a political statement. I wrote this book to end the ban on gay people serving in the Us Armed Forces... It's just this one thing that needs to be fixed."



British Probe Underway

Seven sailors are under investigation following allegations of assault and breach of conduct at Torpoint's HMS Raleigh.

Leading Physical Trainer Sam Connell, aged 22, who is a finalist in the Mr Gay UK competition, is alleged to have assaulted a 20-year-old male recruit in the gym.

In a separate incident six other sailors have been accused of flings with female recruits and an assault on a trainee.

A Royal Navy spokesman this morning confirmed that an investigation is being carried out by the Royal Navy Special Investigations Branch.

"I can confirm that the Royal Navy Special Investigations Branch is investigating an allegation of assault on one individual," the spokesman said.

"A separate investigation is ongoing into possible breaches of the Code of Social Conduct by six personnel at HMS Raleigh. As these are on-going it would be inappropriate to identify those involved as no individuals have yet been charged."

The spokesman could not comment on whether Mr Connell had been dismissed from the navy or not, but added: "Appropriate action has been taken so that the investigation can proceed without risk of compromise. Some individuals have been temporarily moved to other Royal Navy establishments while the investigation takes place."

Mr Connell - who manages HMS Raleigh's football team - last month won the Mr Gay Plymouth title at Zero's nightclub.

He is now in the running for the Mr Gay UK trophy at the finals in Blackpool on Friday, September 29.

Mr Connell, originally from Blackburn, has been in the navy in Plymouth for the past six years.

Lesbian bride's fight wedding

A LESBIAN bride was left with a black eye when her gay wedding ended in a mass punch-up.

Up to 20 guests were said to have brawled at the reception after a comment made by a male relative.

He then fled in the bridal car, complete with white ribbons, as police and ambulance crews arrived.

The bust-up came after firefighter Vanessa Mayo “married” Gail Hines at a civil partnership ceremony in Totnes, Devon.

Fellow firefighters had formed a guard of honour with their axes for divorced mum-of-three Vanessa, 35, and Gail, also in her 30s. There was an afternoon reception before the party moved to the town’s Creamery Social Club.

Trouble flared shortly after 9.30pm. Vanessa was punched in the face, and left sobbing for her honeymoon in Turkey.

A male guest also needed first aid to a facial injury — and the bash ended early to prevent any further trouble.

Club manager Rose Morrison said: “There were 80 people here with both families as well as quite a few firefighters and other friends.

“It was just one incident and by the time the police arrived the man who caused it had gone. Vanessa elected not to go to hospital.” Rose said the fight was sparked by a family argument.

She added: “We never have any trouble here so I said that was it for the evening and closed the party down. Everyone went home.

“It’s a shame because we had an absolutely superb day and everything had gone really well.

“It was a very nice party but it only takes one person to spoil things.

“It was nothing to do with the wedding itself.”

Vanessa’s gran Mrs Constance Thomas said: “It was a really lovely day but there is always someone to ruin everything. That is drink for you.” A police spokesman confirmed: “We were called to a disturbance which was reported to involve 20 people.

“We sent six officers who found that a woman had been allegedly assaulted by a male guest who was known to her.

“We were told that a man had left the party in a car draped with white ribbons.

“The ambulance service were called but we understand the injured parties did not require hospital treatment.

“A man has been spoken to about this incident, but we understand the injured party is away on holiday and at this time no statement or complaint has been made by her.

“It is possible she may make a further complaint when she returns and if so we shall investigate it. Nobody was arrested for assault.”

NINE SCOTTISH firefighters
who refused to hand out flyers at a ‘gay pride’ event have been reprimanded and forced to attend ‘intensive’ diversity training. Several of the firefighters from the Cowcaddens fire station in Glasgow objected to giving out the leaflets on religious and moral grounds.

Others refused because of embarrassment and because they did not regard distributing leaflets to gay people as part of their core duties. The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Glasgow, the Most Rev Mario Conti, criticised the decision by Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service for disciplining the men. He said it was ‘alarming’ they were being made to attend diversity training, and added: “These men were asked, while in uniform, to hand out leaflets during a demonstration where they had legitimate concerns about being the subject of taunts and jokes, and in which, in some cases, their religious sensibilities would have been grossly offended by people dressed as priests and nuns lampooning the Church.”

But a statement from the Strathclyde Fire Service said the officers had carried out a ‘fundamental breach’ of one of their core responsibilities. It said: “Firefighters cannot, and will not, pick and choose to whom they offer fire safety advice. “Strathclyde Fire and Rescue has a responsibility to protect every one of the 2.3 million people it serves, irrespective of race, religion or sexuality.”

Vere Street Coterie

The Vere Street Coterie were a group of men arrested at a Molly house in London in 1810 for sodomy and attempted sodomy. Six men were eventually convicted and pilloried for this offence. Along with Oscar Wilde's imprisonment for a similar offence, this event was one of the major events in gay history in England during the 19th century.

The White Swan in Vere Street, London, was established as a molly-house (that is, a gay club) in early 1810 by two men, James Cook (not the seafarer) and Yardley (full name unknown), who realised the lack of gay brothels in the city offered a business opportunity for them (Yardley claimed to be straight and had a wife, purely in it for the money).

The club had been operating for less than six months when, on 8th July, 1810, it was raided by the Bow Street police. 27 men were arrested, but in the end the majority of them were released (perhaps as a result of bribes) and only eight were tried and convicted.

Six of the convicted men, found guilty of attempted sodomy, were pilloried in the Haymarket on 27th September that year. The crowds who turned out to witness the scene were violent and unruly, throwing various objects (including rotten fish, "cannonballs" made of mud, and of course vegetables) at the men. The women were reported as being particularly vicious. The city provided a guard of 200 armed constables, half mounted and half on foot, to protect the men from even worse mistreatment.

Two further men, Hepburn and White (a drummer boy), were convicted of the act of sodomy itself, and were hanged at Newgate on 7th March 1811.

The entire history of the White Swan and the Vere Street Coterie were related by the lawyer Robert Holloway, who published a book about it called The Phoenix of Sodom in 1813.
